Can you tell me what the workshop is like?

The workshop is designed to wake up deeper sensations in your body than most people are used to. We do a lot of breath work to wake up energy. If you've done any kind of conscious breathing or rebirthing, you will be familiar with some of these processes.
We do a lot of sharing – one on one and in small groups – to be aware of our feelings. The workshop involves a lot of movement, stretching and eye-contact to help us be more aware of our bodies. We also do a lot of touching and massage to help relax into greater awareness of erotic sensations in our bodies.

People respond to these large energy flows in different ways. Some people have very emotional experiences – the energy can wake up lots of memories, wounds and pain. Some people have very spiritual experiences and feel a great sense of connection to the divine. Others have peak experiences of ecstasy and joy that amaze and surprise them. Some people feel more physically alive than before. Some people might experience a deep sense of peace. It’s really different for everyone and depending on where you are in your personal development it can be any combination.

How will this help me in my erotic life?

You will become aware of the many layers of eroticism and how to use them to enhance your life. You can also share this awareness with your partners and friends.

I've heard it's a sort of "spiritual" experience from friends. What does that mean?
Many people report experiences ranging from feeling connected to themselves for the first time to having transcendental moments. Others find a peacefulness, insights and more. Each person’s experience is different.

Can couples do the workshops together?

What is the age group of the people that attend?
You are never too old to attend Body Electric. People in their 20s and on up to their 80s attend and benefit from the work. One of the great gifts of the workshop is the sense of community that comes with a wide range of ages where everyone feels included and appreciated.

Do you have to be sexually attracted to men to do the workshops?
All sexual orientations are welcome. We do not ask and we do not need to know. The work is about erotic energy and pleasure, not about sexual attraction or activity.

What if I run into someone I know?
Say hello. They are there to learn and experience the same as you.

Will they ever say "pick a partner" because I'm afraid I would be the last picked?
All the work is done by random selection in a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment that removes fears of rejection or isolation.

As a man I worry about if I get an erection or don’t get one.
Erections are part of being a man and although they are welcome, they are not required at any workshop.

I heard it is a big orgy.
It is not. The workshops are about erotic energy, deep connections with other participants and self-discovery. The workshops aren't about sexual activity.

I’m living with HIV and I’ve been pretty shut down erotically. Will this workshop help?
A lot of men with HIV have taken the workshop and found it helpful. There are lots of ways to wake up erotic energy, not just through your genitals. The breath work we do helps to clear a lot of emotions that tend to inhibit body sensation.

We also focus on the whole body, so the touch you receive in the workshop is very nurturing and healing and many men report that they feel like they’re coming back into their bodies in ways they haven’t felt for a long time. We also focus on learning how to receive just by experiencing the sensations, not having any expectations. The sense of community in this workshop is very strong and is very encouraging for men who feel erotically isolated.

I’ve been having some trouble with impotence. I’m worried that I may not be able to have an erection.
Our work focuses on the whole body as an erogenous zone and helps men discover how to let go of expectations – needing to be hard, needing to have an erection. Once the energy gets flowing you find yourself letting go of preconceived notions. Tapping into emotions can release a lot of blocks that keep men from feeling connected to their genitals. We also teach men ways to receive so that you don’t have to worry about your performance. If you’re not focusing on performance anxiety, the sensations of pleasure can really help the energy flow.

I’m not sure I understand how to be with people I’m not attracted to.
We all have preconceived notions of what it takes for us to feel a connection. Exercises in the workshops are designed to experience the many different ways we can feel connections. Sometimes it’s through touch, other times it’s sharing parts of our life stories. People experience a lot of heart connection in the workshop – and that tends to be surprising in a group of strangers. Most of us identify attraction through visuals – and that turns out to be only one channel. Part of what makes our work so effective is that the sense of community we create takes pressure off the need to be romantically involved to have a powerful erotic connection. Each person in the workshop is a mirror to help you discover different things about yourself.

What we are learning here is to recognize and feel where and when authentic erotic energy is flowing, and this happens when a person lets erotic connection happen – when they feel their own Eros light up and they let it show. It’s much deeper than the peripheral attractions we feel to image, which are usually fleeting. What we are learning is to be in the stream of erotic energy, a completely different context than the social one where attraction has to lead to or mean something more complicated.
